Syllabus update and slides for Arabic art music

The slides for next Thursday's class on Arabic art music are now installed on Blackboard.

In addition, I have reduced the listening assignment for next Thursday so that you can listen more carefully to a smaller selection. I will also be reducing the listening assignments for future courses and will post a notice here when the syllabus is modified. Please update your syllabus if you have printed it out.

Dana Center concerts

I have added to the syllabus several concerts that the Dana Center is hosting this semester. A number of them take place on Thursday evenings immediately after our class. While attendance at a concert is not required, it would be an excellent opportunity to complete your fieldwork project (which is due on the last day of class).

Exam 1 review

The review for exam 1 is now posted. It is available under Course Documents at right, or from a link on the syllabus.

Format of the exam:
1/3 listening questions, based on excerpts from the assigned listening (and also one listening question based on an excerpt you were not assigned)
1/3 short answer questions
1/3 essay questions
